Its Christmas!!!

Festive Art

Christmas Cards - Cut out a Christmas tree shape from some coloured card and stick onto a slightly larger folded piece of card with glue for the front of your Christmas card. Now it’s time to decorate your tree by using coloured pens, glitter, sequins, you can use small strips of silver foil for tinsel, and a gold pen will draw you a beautiful star for the top of your tree. Lots of fun for children of any age – you can then either buy some envelopes to post your cards to friends and family or make an envelope out of a folded piece of paper stapled at the sides and the flap sellotaped at the top.

Christmas Decorations - Cut out a reindeer shape from some card (a circle for his tummy, smaller circle for his head and some rectangles for his 4 legs) stick all the pieces together to form the reindeers body. Then stick some cotton wool to his tummy and draw on eyes, nose and mouth. You can paint the reindeers tummy brown . How about making a Christmas bell? Cut out a bell shape from some card and again stick on some cotton wool and paint it yellow, you can also add a small jungle bell to the bottom of your bell by tying some thread to the bell and sticking the thread to the back of your bell with some sellotape. A snowman can also be made easily, by cutting out 2 circles from card, one larger than the other and sticking cotton wool onto his tummy and face. Use a black felt tip or marker pen to draw on his eyes and carrot nose. Maybe cut a strip of coloured card out to stick on as a scarf? These decorations can be kept and used every year, a fun past time to be proud of.

Letter to Santa - Whether it’s a picture of the special toy or a written letter to Santa asking him for that special toy – decoration will always help it on its way. Make it is as colourful and glittery as possible using colouring pens, glitter, stickers, foam pieces, ribbon and feathers. If the adult gets a shoe box, covers it with Christmas wrapping paper and cuts a slit in the shoe box near the top, to resemble a post box and puts it on a windowsill (so Santa can see it from outside!) then the children can post their letters to Santa and watch them disappear over night to the North Pole! A magical way to keep the Christmas spirit alive.

Christmas Games

Pin the Bell on the Reindeer! A fun game to play anytime, but especially after a big Christmas dinner! Cut out a reindeer shape from a large piece of A3 card – you and the kids can decorate it – adding eyes, mouth and a big red collar. Next, cut out a large bell shape which also can be coloured and decorated. Stickw some double sided sellotape onto the back of the bell. Get everyone standing in a line, each person must be blind folded with one of Dad’s ties or a tea towel, then spun around twice with the help of an adult or older child. The bell is placed in the blind folded persons hand and they are left to try and stick the bell onto the reindeers collar. The person closest wins!

Santa Says - Played similar to Simon Says. The player up is "Santa". Player will say "Santa says hop on one foot". The children will hop on one foot. Player will say "Stop". The children are to keep hopping on one foot until player says "Santa says stop". Repeat for additional activities such as take one baby step forward, step backwards, turn around, sit down. Sometimes Santa will say "Santa says" and sometimes he won't. It's a fun game to play with any amount of children to get them to listen and concentrate whilst having fun!

Christmas Cookery

Snowman Soup - For an extra special treat why not try some snowman soup on a cold winters eve? All you’ll need is;
• A hot chocolate sachet
• 10 mini marshmallows
• White chocolate buttons
• One small candy cane
Boil the kettle, pour the water onto the hot chocolate powder in a bowl. Stir until dissolved and throw in your marshmallows, white chocolate buttons and candy cane to stir for Mr Snowmans warm up treat!

Christmas Music

Christmas Carol Jingle Bells! - Thread 5 jingle bells onto some pipe cleaners. Take the pipe cleaners and wind them around an un- sharpened pencil or chop stick and secure at the top and bottom with a knot and some sellotape. You now have a jingle bell stick to shake when singing along to your favourite Christmas carols!!
